Natural Turf Football Pitches
St Crispins, Northampton

Client: Taylor Wimpey (East Midlands)

Prestige won the contract, as main contractor, to build 4 full size, natural grass football pitches and associated amenity areas for community use on the old St Crispin's Hospital site in Northampton. The contract was awarded by Taylor Wimpey (East Midlands) on behalf of Northampton Borough Council. Particular consideration was given to environmental issues as the site was home to several species of protected flora and fauna.

Removal works

An part area of approximately 11,000 m2 was Heras fenced-off, flailed and sprayed. Trees were removed where requested. The whole area was stone-picked and cleared of fly-tipped rubbish. All rubble was sorted, graded and crushed. Where possible 6F2 certificate was obtained. All materials to be sorted were identified in segregated skips and disposed of by licensed operators to licensed sites. Prestige Civils and sports provided an audit trail for all material removed from site.

Pitch surface preparation

A single graded shelf of 39,255 m2 was created for four natural grass football pitches to approved sections and to falls towards a formed lagoon area.The sides of the shelf were battered and finished with 100mm of reclaimed topsoil. The shelf area subsoil was graded to achieve approved levels and topped with 150mm of reclaimed top soil. The area was levelled off in preparation for re-seeding.

Handover was completed on time and the project was completed to budget.
