Artificial Hockey Pitch
Brockenhurst College

Client: Brockenhurst College

Prestige won the contract to build a full size, artificial turf, sand dressed hockey pitch to FIH / EH category 1 standards at Brockenhurst College. The pitch was required predominantly for hockey but needed to facilitate limited use for football. A warm up artificial pitch for hockey and football was also required to be built to the same spec as the main pitch. The contract was then further extended to include the regrading, renovating and draining of 3 natural grass football pitches.

Earthworks & Drainage The area of the hockey pitch was rotavated, levelled and compacted to accept the engineered base. A lateral drainage system with catchpit and soakaway was installed.
	Formation A type 1 stone base was laid on top of a geotextile membrane then levelled and compacted. Tarmac was laid on top to complete the engineered base to BS4987. Pin line kerbing was used.
Surface - Shock pad A 15mm wet pour rubber shockpad (min 8% binder) was laid over the engineered base.
	Surface - Carpet The carpet was required to meet EH category 1 standards and be FIH approved. Prestige chose Lano's 18mm Excelsior PA polypropylene fibrilating carpet with a weight of 1400g /m2 to give a good level of hockey play as well as allowing limited use for football. Inlaid, permanent line markings were included for hockey and football.
Fencing 3m high twinbar, weld mesh, galvanised and coated fencing with 8 recesses, a 1200m high re-inforced rebound panel and hockey kickboards to current British Standards. A double gate was included.
	Floodlighting 8 number 15m high floodlight columns with 32 lamps were installed to current British Standards, to provide an average maintained illumination of 500 lux.

Spectator areas were tarmaced, kerbed and paved. Hockey goals and 5 aside football goals were supplied.

Testing was carried out at each stage of the construction process to ensure compliance to FIH, EH, BS and other required standards.

Handover was completed on time and the project was completed to budget.
